more than just a fairy tale

do you remember our first meeting?

Thinking back, Suzaku and Euphemia's "fateful encounter" was probably more than just a little coincidence - though not far off. As much as being jailed without a reason is bizarre enough, having a pink angel fall into your arms from the sky is definitely outta the league of commons. But alas, Suzaku happens to be that lucky guy who tasted the excitement of both in merely a week.

what I see is what I believe

Life will always have its ups and downs. Suzaku is of course no exception. After being gunned down while protecting your best friend... after being jailed even though you just helped your organization to win an important battle... anyone would need a break of some sort.

Then a princess is thrown in for the bargain.

There's gotta be some connection between a boy and a girl in any anime/manga work if they're constantly placed by each other's side at time of crisis. Leaving the "Damn you lucky bastard!" comments aside, I find it amusingly sweet that Euphemia is implied to be the "oasis" in Suzaku's world throughout their moments together, though oftentimes not fully realized by Mr. Dense himself. Their encounter is a good example: walking with such a pretty girl (later to be found out as a princess) like a normal student must be a tremendous bliss when you've just been branded the title of a murderer. As we will learn later in the series, whenever Suzaku is in some sort of trouble, Euphemia is always there for mental support even when the boy can't see it. Now, this seems like a crucial element in the future relationship of these two.

The fact that neither Suzaku or Euphemia had expected the fashion of their first meeting makes the whole matter even more meaningful. There's the argument that Euphemia solely picked Suzaku up as a starting point in her goal of trying to understand the Elevens before she takes over the area. However, why would a princess decide to have a murder suspect as her first escort in a foreign country? Let along the murderer of your own brother, anyhow. The best definition in this case would be a matter of quick instincts. I don't suppose Euphemia had much time to analyze Suzaku's true character when she realized who the boy in front of her was. As a result, she must have relied solely on her first impression that Suzaku didn't look like the evil person he was rumored to be, or she would never have acted so carefree around Suzaku as she did throughout their little date. This marks an interesting starting line in Suzaku and Euphemia's relationship because our princess is actually the one who made the initial move towards a possible future together, while Suzaku obviously had more moments of doubts than the girl ever did. Well, Euphemia had her own good reason - "Only kind people would suffer the pain of one-sided love." Look, all's sunshine in the world!

There's no such term as destiny in the world of Geass, thank you.
